December 1st has been proclaimed as World AIDS Day. HIV/AIDS is a deadly disease that is still plaguing men, women and children worldwide though it is no longer highly publicized in the media. Millions have died, and countless children have been left parentless in African countries due to the AIDS pandemic. There is still no cure for AIDS. However, the onset of AIDS may be delayed by treatment with antiretroviral drugs, which usually consists of taking a combination of three or more drugs at least once a day. This treatment can allow an individual to live with HIV for many years. Celestial Enterprises Unlimited Inc. is committed to spreading HIV/AIDS health awareness and prevention through literature, productions and media. We have a mission to help encourage churches, agencies and organizations to become more receptive to providing support and caring to victims and survivors of HIV/AIDS. It is not just "their" problem. Most of us have had a friend, a family member or know of someone who has been affected or infected by the disease. This epidemic affects all of us! We encourage everyone who is sexually active whether they are married, divorced, single, young or old to get tested and know what their status is. This is one way to help stop the spread of HIV/AIDS. Another way to stop the spread is by being honest with your partner about your sexual health. It is also important to practice "safe sex" no matter how handsome he is or how much he may resist using protection. Women must be wise enough to protect themselves, know that their partner has been tested and does not have HIV/AIDS or some other STD (sexually transmitted disease), and to just say,"No."
"The life you save may be your own!"
There are numerous agencies in every city across the country that provide testing which is confidential and often free of charge. Going on the Internet and doing a search on Google is a good way to find testing sites and other supportive services that are available in your community for those who have been affected or infected by HIV/AIDS.
Many people resist getting tested due to their fears. F.E.A.R. (false evidence appearing real) stops many from even considering to get tested. Fear of finding out the truth. Fear that if the results are positive, their lives will be over. Fear that they will die. However, God has not given us the spirit of fear, but He's given those of us who believe, power, love and a sound mind. And God promises that He will never leave or forsake us no matter the trials we may have to face. Knowing the truth will set people free from being ignorant about their HIV/AIDS status and hopefully will prevent them from unknowingly infecting others. It will also help them deal with their health if they are positive and get the treatment and medications they need to help sustain their lives.
Please encourage those you know to get tested, to abstain or at least practice "safe sex." Remember to pracice what you "preach" yourself! |
| RED RIBBON
The Red Ribbon is an international symbol of AIDS awareness. It symbolizes care and concern about HIV and AIDS, and reminds people of the need for a public commitment to combat the epidemic. The Red Ribbon is worn by many people who support the awareness and prevention of HIV and AIDS throughout the year, especially during the month of December. It symbolizes: "I do care about HIV and AIDS, I am concerned about HIV and AIDS, and I do hope for a cure to stop the suffering." "I do support those living with HIV, the continuing education of those not infected, and those who have lost friends, family members or loved ones to AIDS." The Red Ribbon is the global symbol for solidarity with people who are HIV positive and people living with AIDS. It unites people together in the common fight against this pandemic disease. The Red Ribbon was created by Visual AIDS, a New York-based charity group of art professionals and created by singer/songwriter Paul Jabara. The 1st of December was established as World AIDS Day to help combat discrimination, shame and intolerance by the general public towards those affected and infected by the HIV/AIDS disease. Remember to wear a Red Ribbon on December 1st to show your support of those affected and infected by the HIV/AIDS disease. |
| Thank you in advance for being aware, caring and for joining in the fight against the spread of the HIV/AIDS epidemic by getting tested, abstaining or at least having "safe sex," and being honest with your partner about your sexual health.
Together we can make a difference and help save the children! |
Sincerely, Mariah Childs, CEO, LCSW
